Mumble Jumble

New work. This is my response to the way we gather our news and information these days. It feels like we navigate a labyrinth of truths, half-truths, and misleading statements – not to mention the downright lies. We gravitate to what supports our entrenched views, and avoid, or at least dismiss as drivel those opinions that disagrees with how we see the world - what to do? I think it's best to trust your moral compass and keep an open mind that challenges any prejudices we know we hold. In the end there’s much joy out there, and as we only get the one life, it’s our responsibility to enjoy the journey as best we can.

Blooms

Oil on canvas - 60cm x 50cm

A friend came to dinner at our home sometime ago and brought flowers with her. The next morning I was slightly hungover but couldn't fail to notice how much the flowers lifted my spirits - they were simply beautiful. I took time to really look at the colour, the subtle tone of the petals and decided then and there to paint them. This brought around a change of direction for my style, I wanted to see every brush stroke on the canvas, every rich globule of paint. I got so excited about this new direction, that over the next few months I painted many more botanical painting. These painting will be exhibited later this year.

2 more speech bubbles.

2 more in the series. These 2 paintings are oil on paper. I like to think the words are left for the viewer to use. The 'yes' could be what is needed to motivate someone to do something - I know I often have to make myself say yes to do something that I've been putting off.

The 'SIGH' painting you can make your own story up as to what is making her sigh.

Something new.

I like to shake things up a little, or a lot, depending on how I feel some days. Recently I started a series of paintings involving speech bubbles. The two you see here are without words; one is titled, COLOURFUL LANGUAGE and the other, A MOST INCREDIBLE STORY. I'm sure you can tell which is which.

Poster for exhibition

If by any chance you are in Taupo, or travelling through, take a moment to stop off and check out my exhibition FRENCH CONNECTION. If you can make it to the opening on Friday 16th at 5:30, a glass of wine awaits. I'll be there, and happy to chat about the work.
